Lana De Pelecijn

Terrorism, (violent) extremism and radicalization, Deradicalization and disengagement in Belgian prisons

Lana De Pelecijn is currently a PhD Fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) affiliated with the Ghent University and member of the Institute for International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP). She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Criminology. In 2016, she worked as a research fellow at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) on the FWO-project “Back-end sentencing: exploring decision-making processes and practices of recall to prison”. In 2017, she worked on a one-year project of the Flemish Government on disengagement of radicalized prisoners through an interuniversity collaboration (Ghent University, Free University of Brussels, KU Leuven). Since 2018, Lana is working on her doctoral thesis where she will explore the process toward (violent) extremism. She is also interested in research activities which concern the subjects of Counterterrorism policies and initiatives, and deradicalization and disengagement in Belgian prisons.
